Story took too long to build for me with a lot of the middle of the book becoming fairly repetitive and lacking in anything that really moved the story on.
It had such great promise but lacked any real depth to the storyline.
Characters started to build and the complex web of relationships started to develop but then resulted in am anti-climax. The Maude-Nell-Chris relationships could have had so much more to them starting with such promise for a juicy, hearty storyline.
Overall I found that there was a lot of repetition, hints every now and then of an historic rivalry/misdemeanor but then very little to build on that or really develop the storyline further. More time could have been spent exploring the historic issues and death and web of deceit behind that and the bitterness that resulted.
