This was slow starting for me and the action was all in the last few chapters. I was intrigued by the elder house and it’s history. I couldn’t understand Nell and Carolyn’s connection until almost the end or he interest in the house. Gina was anther character that lacked something but was willing side line assistance to Nell. Kim was an unusual character and didn’t have a firm connection for me. Evie was mysteriously well behaved but given her mother’s mental state that’s not surprising. It must have been hard to hear that she was a disappointment or defective ( her mothers words not mine) I did struggle to get into this and get it finished and I am glad I now have as it feels like I’ve accomplished that successfully. It didn’t feel like a ghost story in the true sense of the word. I did enjoy the imagery and I could imagine from the descriptions that elder house was like and the yard and I could place myself there
