On the one hand lots of great stuff about Alex and soloing Freerider; on the other, running through each page is the author's preoccupation with his own place in the climbing world. Listening to him (mostly unconsciously) try to stay near the top of the climbing scene was, sadly, exhausting like watching a B+ trying to get to an A-. We all do it, I suppose except Alex. He's truly the best, and his lack of comparing mind come to the fore precisely because of the author's repeated falling into it. Despite this I liked the book a lot. Just don't think it'll be only about Alex and you wont feel mislead...
