When I initially read the synopsis for this book I thought it would centre around this one “Impossible climb” up El Capitan and the challenges and problems the climbers faced along the way. However this book is much more like a diary of the authors life as well as the history of climbing, which at times was a bit dull.

I felt that the book was written in such a way that for a novice like me, who knows nothing about climbing, the reader ends up lost in all the technical jargon and unsure what’s going on.

To be honest this book is not really something that I would normally pick up but the blurb sounded interesting and I wanted to try something new. Sadly this feel a bit flat for me but I’m sure fans of climbing would find this a fascinating story.

Overall it had its good moments but these were too few and far between and the book just wasn’t really for me. Great cover though!
