I am the type of reader that this book will appeal to, an occasional climber and reader of climbing and expedition books. This was an engaging story of a quirky and interesting character and the whole team approach to this amazing climb.
The technical aspects were not difficult to comprehend, the angst was pretty steep, just like the climb and the obsession was real. i enjoyed the human story as much as the practices and actual climb. The description was well written, conjuring the scenery and severity of the landscape. So much so, I did feel like a real-time observer of events.
The friendships were interesting and very real, the drama was vivid and the emotions were sometimes gutting. This is a book that will have broad appeal, especially to those who want more after seeing the film.
