This is not a genre I would normally read and I’m not a climber by any means; walking upstairs can be enough for me!
But my goodness...this book took my breath away!
The author, Mark Synnott, was tasked by National Geographic to write about a climb by Alex Hannold that seemed impossible of El Capitan. A climber himself his voice in this book was succinct, atmospheric and allowed us, the readers, to share in this breathtaking audacious climb. The story is told with wit whilst capturing every emotion possible. The tension of the climb, it’s daring and fortitude is beautifully told.
One does not have to hold any experience or even interest to enjoy this marvellous story, to be able to understand the thinking behind undertaking such a death defying task was an extra bonus. A thoroughly great read!
