I have not read books about climbing for a while and The Impossible Climb was a great reintroduction to that world. A book just about Alex Honnold's freesolo of freerider on El Capitan would have been interesting but not nearly as much as the one Mark Synnott has written. I liked the combination of the description of the run up to the freerider climb, without any 'sugar coating', interspersed with his own climbing history and that of the other major players in the field. Not only current but also historic climbs of the area are included. I needed to really concentrate as the time lines in the backstories moved back and forward but it was well worth the effort. This is a book I will read and enjoy again.
