Marcus Clodius Ballista is, quite clearly, a Norseman. He is well assimilated in to Roman culture and daily life and has served in the Emperor's forces but now he is in a very dangerous situation. There is a plot to murder the Emperor that seems to have been hatched at the highest level and he, and he alone, can warn the emperor.

I'm not entirely sure about this one. It seems to trot along happily enough and the detail of Rome is lush and vibrant. There was just nothing to grab me and make me want to read on in the the First Impression. The writing itself is well paced and flows quite naturally, it is the tale it has to tell that didn't engage me.
