A powerful read.
The Nine by Gwen Strauss (the great niece of one of the nine) tells the story of a group of women and their fight for survival during the times of World War 2. This is a story of friendship, strength and courage during the most horrific times.
I have read many books about WW2 but this one was very different as I didn’t actually know that much about the Resistance before. Alongside their horrendous time in a concentration camp, the book describes the extremely difficult time and ordeal the nine women continue to face after the war ends.
The style of writing was very different with a mix of both the story and real life accounts of what happened added in to the chapters.
I liked that each chapter focused on each of the women and I was really interested reading the last few chapters to understand what happened to them later in life. It was an emotional read which I expected, and the photos in the story added to this.
