The main attraction of the book for me was that it was a true story about nine female resistances workers in France during the second world war. I found it a very difficult read, I couldn't read it before going to bed as it played on my mind and I had to read a light story alongside it. It is hard to imagine the horrors and degradation that these remarkable women shared. Throughout it all they had a determination to get through it. It is hard to believe that human beings can be so cruel. These were young women, the same age as my granddaughters, yet they had courage beyond their years. They showed such solidarity in getting through their time in the concentration camps and they stuck together throughout the escape which must have been so challenging for them. It shows what the human spirit can endure.

I could understand that it was difficult for them all after the war ended yet their families knew little of what they went through. It was as if they put shutters up about their experience.

It is a book that will remain in my mind for a very long time.
