This book tore my heart to pieces - it tells the story of the women that history women left behind; nine women who formed a powerful alliance in the face of Nazi oppression. This book was written by a relative of one of the women who was part of "The Nine" and the author's personal connection with the subject matter is really palpable from her style of writing. The women who formed "The Nine" were part of the French Resistance and the Dutch Resistance but were captured and sentenced to the horrors of the concentration camps. There, they formed a bond that would sustain them through even the greatest challenges, for example, the traumatic Death March that they were forced to endure. I felt so deeply connected to this book and I could not stop thinking about it after I put it down - it really moved me. I would highly recommend this book, especially to those who connected with books such as The Tattooist of Auschwitz.
