Powerful and Poignant

The Nine is the powerful and inspiring story of nine brave, determined young women enduring and escaping the brutal treatment they and many others suffered during the latter stages of the Second World War by the Nazis. The work of the thousands of people involved in the Resistance network has always fascinated me and leaves me in awe at their sacrifices, selflessness and survival skills. The women’s friendship and trust in each other from the labour camp to their escape is made even more poignant as the author is related to one of them. She cleverly tells their story individually and as a collective and her research to uncover so many of the details. I found the photographs of each of women
particularly moving.

Such recent history, such strength, such determination should never be forgotten. This book is a wonderful tribute to these nine women and the untold others too.
