Gwen Strauss wrote this account of three women escaping while on a death march really well.
The book really shocked and upset me but I am very glad that I read it, what these brave women that were in the concentration camps was way more than I have ever read before, the things that happened to them were just unbelievable, that a human can do these things to another is beyond me, but somehow these women found ways to keep themselves going, their spirit still alive and then be able to escape.
The nine women were on a death march between camps just as there was news that the allies were coming.
These marches went on for miles, many women lost their lives but Hélène, Zaza, Nicole, Lon, Guigui, Zinka, Josée, Jacky and Mena were not ready to give up, while not being watched they darted away, hoping not to hear or feel the shots the same as many others had.
This book tells their struggle to try to get to the front and onwards to home.
Everyone should read this book and hope nothing like it ever happens again.
