This story absolutely broke me it hurt to see what people had to be or look like to fit into the societal 'norms' and all the horrific events that they had to endure. I myself know the life that these amazing women had to endure as it is part of my families history the pain that I hope that no one else would ever have to endure.his book was so engrossing, fascinating, harrowing, and captivating that I forgot at times that it was nonfiction. These women all participated in the Resistance against the German occupation, risked their very existence, and were imprisoned. Instead of giving up, they continued to fight, and this is their story of escape, survival, and resilience. I am stunned and forever changed by their heroic and unforgettable stories. I am so grateful that the author (whose own aunt was one of the women) was able to bring light to these events and be able to tell the world of these strong women. Reading their stories of escape and survival is something that everyone needs to read. It is something that I will never forget. Somehow I think the cover had me more gripped it told its own story the snowy background, the barbed wire and the ripped piece of cloth showing what they all had to go through just to live and also the hardships they would have had to endure
