This book is written by Gwen Strauss who is the great niece of one of the nine young women who were caught after joining the resistance during the nazi regime in World War 2. Helen, Zaza, Nicole, Lon, Guigui, Zinka, Jose and Jacky and Menza were tortured and sent to concentration camps where they formed great friendships. After managing to escape during a death march, this story shows their fight for survival and the struggles and obstacles they faced trying to get to the front line to get home. It is a mix of both their story and real life and also included the families and descendants telling what the women were like and how their life was impacted due to these traumatic events. It also includes photos of the nine women.
This book is powerful and makes a change from reading about the men during the war, it was very emotional and well worth a read.
