This is shaping up to be quite an engrossing little tale with, potentially, a strong element of the weird or maybe even supernatural to it. Somehow I get a Wicker Man vibe off it but that could just be wishful thinking.

The plot appears strong in these early stages with a lot of questions left open in order to lure the reader in and hold their attention. Characterisation is also quite strong and a good sense of the place and the people in it is already emerging.

My reservation is that I have gone down the route of thinking something looks really engrossing from the first 20 - 30 pages but then finding the author has spent all their talent on those with the rest turning limp and lifeless. I certainly hope this is not the case here as it is beginning very well.
