A remote and isolated traditional Cornish village, an ex policeman in witness protection and a vulnerable runaway set the scene for a deadly game of cat and mouse. Who is he hiding from? Why is she running?
Hints of something very sinister. The author uses very evocative language to paint the landscape and often tumultuous weather of rural Cornwall. He illustrates a small rural community very well, helping to build a sense of claustrophobia and isolation often felt in such communities which only adds to the sense of paranoia both lead characters must experience whilst constantly looking over their shoulders. All in all a very intriguing opening which makes me want to read on!
