Tom is under witness protection, Lila has fallen in with some bad people, there is a sinister group of travelers living nearby, there are strange meetings for the locals only... I enjoyed the way all of these elements came together to create a complex and creepy Cornish town. I also liked the characters; Tom may have acted heroically at times, but was also filled with self-doubt and self-recrimination. Lila was rather conflicted and confused too, and they made a good team. The book does not focus all the action amongst the men, which can be a failing of thrillers and crime books. The lead character may be a man but there are some strong female characters too.
I didn't think the writing style was amazing, but it was good enough, and I really enjoyed the story. I would read more by this author.
