I was gripped by this novel from the first page. It has echoes of Hinterland right from the start, set in rural, isolated Cornwall we are intrigued and keen to find out what Tom - the main protagonist - had done to bring him to Such an isolated spot. The plot takes us to a traveller camp, where we learn about a kidnapping. The author describes the poor victim’s situation with such clarity, the reader feels like they’re there with Kyle, the reader shares his fear and hopes foe his escape when we hear from the bereaved parents on the TV appeal. In a village full of strong characters the author has you guessing right until the end about who can and can’t be trusted. I was surprised at who fell into the latter category and this kept me gripped until the end.
