I appreciate the writing in this first extract, but unfortunately this book wasn't for me. While I like historical fiction, I don't typically choose books set this far in the past! I wasn't a huge fan of the cover either, the colour palette was quite dull and if I saw it on a shelf I wouldn't think to pick it up.
