From the first page the tension was built Adolpho is in exotic Morocco when terror strikes not from the Moors but from a fellow English speaker. Marrakesh is left behind to be replaced by post Armada London which to my eye is quite historically accurate from the many other books I have read on Elizabethan England loved the use of the period language so many novels are spoilt by modern language spoken by historical characters.

Nicholas and Bianca are well written as is the real life shadowy Cecil who sends Nicholas on his mission and then there's the Plague.....

This is a stand alone book but the little instances of previous stories which must have taken place in the previous novels Serpents Mark and Angels Mark make me intrigued to read them too if they are as good as this novel I will be more than satisfied
