This is the third book in a series and I have not read the previous two.
Set in Elizabethan England at a time of the plague, involving a young physician and his a love intertest apothecary. The physician is forced to go to Marakesh on to investigate the disappearance of a diplomat. Meanwhile there is a mysterious death.
Although this book is well written and based on good ideas I found it disappointing, it seems to be lacking in depth and detail, the characters are interesting but not well rounded. Much of the book tells of events in previous books in far too much detail rather than getting on with the current story.
It is an interesting story , well written but lacks depth , historic detail and the tension that a crime mystery requires. Although I did enjoy it I found it a bit too "light", the title suggests something much darker.
I would have liked maps of Elizabethan London and the Barbary coast and more historic facts, citations and further reading at the end.
