A historical fiction novel that begins in 16th century London before moving to Morocco. Both locations are evoked wonderfully - I could almost smell the sewers and smog of London, and then the mint tea and spices of Marrakesh.

The tale is a combination of spy thriller and a non-traditional romance between two strong characters with their own demons and personal histories to contend with.

Every character was well-written and the story kept me guessing, particularly as the unconventional hero sought to navigate his way through rogues and friends in Morocco, trying to guess who could be trusted.

I am not usually a huge lover of historical fiction, but enjoyed this as the language was modern. Only got a bit lost at the Moroccan names and seemingly endless list of potential baddies in Marrakesh.
