I believe this may be part of a series, although I haven't come across it before, but based on this first impression I don't think that will prove a problem,
This has already gripped me as an historical fiction novel set in a time and place I know little about, revolutionary France at the time of the debate around nobility and slavery.
The book starts off with a brilliant action introduction to our english spy protagonist as she inflitrates a ship to recover an abducted noblelady and then continues at pace as we start to find out the context and events of the period, and the work our spy,and the story, will be involved with.
The title and merest hints give a sense of some of the other historical characters that will be involved and I think this story has got real potential
