The book’s cover is detailed and attractive - I line the fact that the title is The Scarlet Code, and this is echoed by a red climber on the wall.
I have not read the first book in this series, but having read this First Impression, I would certainly be interested in doing so. Attica seems to be a most interesting character, and it is unusual to have a book about a half African, half English noble, ex-slave girl working as a spy in Revolutionary France! Jemmy is also a most attractive and intriguing character.
I would certainly like to read more. I wonder whether the famed Scarlet Pimpernel is actually Attica, from hints dropped in the latter chapters included here - that would be interesting! I like the fact that fictional characters are mixed in with real historical figures like Robespierre. From the short glimpse we have of him here, Robespierre certainly doesn’t seem to be all idealist either... it is very intriguing, and I would love to find out more about this world.
I also found it very easy to read, enjoying the style and the pace.
