This book was a fantastic read, it is the 2nd of the series, but I didn't find that an issue with enjoying and understanding this novel. Indeed I am going to try and get a copy of the first novel because I enjoyed this so much.

I don't know very much about this part of history, and my knowledge of the era and the Scarlet Pimpernel stems mostly from a vague knowledge and that episode of BlackAdder.

C S Quinn has written this novel in such a way that I was transported into France in the height of revolution, the setting seemed real and the context provided was good but not overwhelming, it fit in around the action of the plot.
The lead characters were almost believable, and not ridiculous in their actions, and the story moved at a good pace.
It's full of intrigue and espionage with healthy doses of action and historical events throughout.

I liked the twist on the Pimpernel story, and also how at points it smoothly moved to the back burner as the important historical events took place and were described to me as a reader.

I can't comment on the accuracy but I can say this was a really enjoyable and well written historical thriller, and I think it will be enjoyed by those who know the period as well as people like me who just like a good exciting read.
