I read this book in 2 days. The story is gripping both in terms of the historical tale and in the convoluted love story.
I have not read the first book in the series but do not think this impacts on the enjoyment.

A complex historical tale is matched by the complex love story. Attica is due to marry her spy master Atherton, on her completion of the mission, however she is distracted by the mission, Jemmy and the concubine she is determined to save.
