I would like to thank ReadersFirst for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. And I am sorry to say that I am brutally honest (okay, I am not actually sorry).

I did not like this book one bit. Sometimes you know, books start well and then end badly, or the other way round. Well, this wasn't the case for The Scarlet Code. I simply did not like from start to end. It was only through sheer willpower that I got through it to the end.

We are in a great setting: Paris just at the edge of French Revolution. We follow the English spy Attica Morgan as she works in the French capital. She has adventures alright - an escape here, a rescue there, strange passages in antique buildings, dealing with angry mobs. Yet, her whole characterisation falls short of being realistic and Attica looks like a thin piece of paper which could crack at the lightest gust of wind.

On the other hand, her buddy Jeremy, a pirate - but a noble pirate, don't worry - is a little more exciting, just as much one of the girls she rescues.
