While I had the knowledge that this was not the very first book, it did not stop me enjoying this one and in fact I cannot wait to read the first one in the series now.
Throughout the writing is very good and altough it was very fast paced it wasn't too fast that you could not keep up with characters and plots just paced enough that you cannot stop reading page after page. You don't get many books set in the French Revolution (or so that I have come across) so this was a unique historical concept which in my opinion was executed very well indeed.
Adventure is at every turn and mystery is unveiled, I would 100% reccommend this book, it is an enjoyable read and I think would make a great historical movie, the writing is just so vivid!
