Wow , what a beginning ! I can't think of a book I have read before with such a powerful opening !
It is hard enough to be told that your child is seriously ill , but imagine how you would feel to be told that your child is someone elses flesh and blood . This is what happens to Phil and Sarah . When the blood test first shows that they cannot be the parents Phil is thinking that Sarah is the mother and has been unfaithful to him 15 years before . She knows that is what he is thinking so in a way it is almost a relief when the DNA results come back that Lauren is definately not their child .
Now for an emotional ride as the feelings and emotions of various family members are shared with the reader . Some of their thoughts are very uncomfortable , but understandable . Now one family has a child with a rare condition and disabilities . The other has not . What should happen ? Is there a way to resolve the situation , or should things be left as they are ?
