A wonderful introduction to what is set to be a super book.
The first three chapters introduce us to three very different characters, the homeless man, who seems to have been a teacher in a former life, a barrister, who is on her 5th round of IVF and a grandma who seems to react quickly to protect her daughter in law and grandson. Why did the homeless man become homeless? Is the barrister finally pregnant? What makes the reactions of this grandma so swift? There are so many questions about the characters histories that the reader is anxious to answer, and all this before we even come to the promised hostage situation.
By making the reader engaged with the character’s lives and back story we become more involved with them and more engaged with the situation they are set to find themselves in.
