I absolutely loved this book - it was sensitive, thought provoking and moving.

A very simple, but well-executed plot, where a group of people are held hostage in a small London cafe, when Sam charges in and shoots the owner Robert Lacey.

Throughout the siege the hostages all reveal their secrets, as does Sam, the gunman showing that everyone is fighting their own battles, has their own history and are all fighting their own demons.

The hostages are Neil a homeless ex-teacher, Abi a barrister and Mutetsi, a healthcare worker. An unlikely group of people to forge lifelong friendships after such a traumatic experience.

The author skillfully creates 3D characters within a very limited setting - which in turns makes this book a real page turner which actually had me in tears at the end.
