A debt of gratitude leads Shelby once more into danger and intrigue.

Nicholas Shelby has returned to his family home in Suffolk to reunite with his parents following his wife's death and the impact of his previous adventures. Whilst there he reflects on his time fighting for the House of Orange and meets his old commander Sir Joshua Wylde who asks him to help him with a delicate matter concerning the new physician that his new wife has employed to care for his son. Shelby sees this as a means of making some money while he tries to regain his old position in London but he is not ready for the danger and intrigue that he will find in this new role.
