Well written, you quickly get a picture of the people speaking and of the bustle of their surroundings.
It is a fast paced story with plenty of mystery coming up. I dislike that there is also clearly a mystery before this story but it is written in such a way that it is better to have had read it rather than it being offered up within this book. But I guess a writers gotta sell.
I really enjoyed such an empathetic man as a main character, he’s much more tuned in to the sadness of the time unlike other men who complain of sickly heirs and refer to women as basically heir-producers. He also questions the more bizarre medical practices after a bad experience of them which is an interesting line to follow.
I liked the setting, both the time and place and it seemed well researched and written. It’s interesting to read of a time physicians believed in reading the stars, God’s will etc and how this influenced their work. It provides an interesting backdrop to the storyline.
