I liked the character of Nicholas and how immersive I felt I was in the time period,and despite not knowing much about the 1500's I think this book could easily hold my interest if it continues in this manner.
The main character being a physician instead of a warrior,lord or lucky peasant was a nice change to many historical fiction books I've read before.
I haven't read the preceding book to this one, and I think that was a detriment to my understanding and enjoyment of this first impression, but I think I will track down The Angels Mark and give it a read as I liked the style of writing and in terms of historical fiction I was convinced the author knows the period he is writing about well.
