I was eager to read this second novel in the series of books featuring the two likeable characters Nicholas Shelby and Bianca Merton. I was certainly not disappointed.
Set in Elizabethan England, this is a story of conspiracy and espionage. As with the first book, The Angel's Mark, the writing is very descriptive and the story is well told. The story is quite slow-going at the start, but nail-biting and exhilarating in parts too; this is an excellent read. It's one of those books where the chapters end at a crucial point, and before you know it you've read another one and the book is finished.
If you like the Shardlake novels by C J Sansom, you will love these books too. Thoroughly recommended.
