Historical fiction that didn’t win me over.
I really wanted to like this book, I willed something to happen. I’d been so excited to read this, but honestly, the actual murder took forever to happen.
If you’ve got your heart set on a historical read, I’d highly recommend ‘The Familiars’ instead.
Normally I am a big fan of historical fiction as a genre, and I particularly like those titles set around 1500-1700.
This novel’s blurb looked good. Despite a rather ugly front cover, I still wanted to read this book. However, I was sadly very disappointing.
Though it started out positively enough, the writing quickly became clunky and repetitive and was, in part because of these factors, painfully slow.
A reader needs to be drawn in to a book- this one just didn’t do that.
