This book is a bit of a slow burner, I didn't expect to love the book not being used to the Historical Fiction Genre but I actually did. The book was very detailed at the beginning making it slow and hard to get into to start with but by the middle of the book, you are so in love with the characters and the story.

I think if you're going to read this book definitely read the first book of the series as it may make the begging of the book easier. But you certainly don't have to read the first book in order to understand this one.

I love the main character Nicholas, after going through some tragic life events where he could not save his wife and child even though he's a doctor, you really empathise with him. I love his questioning nature about religion, medicine and life - as I'm sure anyone would be after such events.

I also love Bianca, brave strong women, especially considering the time of setting. I found the book very enjoyable, beautifully written, a slow-paced novel to really take your time with. Plus, the cover of the book is GORGEOUS.
