I do like reading historical fiction, but I know very little about Japan, especially when it comes to the persecution of Chrisitians in the late medieval period, which I think is where this book focuses on.

The first impression doesn't give a lot away, the key characters are introduced, and the opening pages of the executions by the Daimyo were very well written.

Equally there's hints of martial arts and the way of the sword. Whilst I can't tell exactly what direction this book is heading in there was more than enough to get me curious, just perhaps not quite enough actual action to fully draw me in.

This could be the start of a good trilogy though, and the name and the cover gives me hope that it will lean more towards action and last samurai-esque than exploring the nuances of religion and persecution,
