The title itself is quite abnormal and I wonder if it is metaphorical or literal. I found the cover to be alluring and representing a dark concept. However, the only thing thing that is slightly off-putting is the fact that this is the first book of a trilogy. Don’t get me wrong, I love series but from reading the extract, the trilogy might be too long and might become boring. I have also yet to see the ‘fantasy’ genre in this historical fiction novel.
Overall, the writing is very detailed and therefore makes the scenes very easy to imagine and play out. Everything flowed easily together.
I cannot comment on the characters because we haven’t seen enough of them. Although every character is developed well, I feel like there wasn’t a focus (yet) on any certain characters; but that will probably happen later throughout the book.
