Uncorrected proof copy

So much of my reading enjoyment is tactile. I love the feel and smell of a new hard copy book - I never read e-books.
I enjoy many different genres of books. Whilst I don't mind 'light' stories which don't require much thought to be flimsy throwaway paperbacks, I prefer more serious books which I read more slowly to be hard back.
I was looking forward to receiving The Swords of Silence as my First Impression was that it would be a historical trilogy about 17th century Japan to rival Conn Igulden.
I was very disappointed to receive an uncorrected proof copy and even more dismayed when I started reading it to find there were so many printing errors (eg every letter 'd') that it distracted me and spoilt my enjoyment in reading it. I gave up as I was not enjoying it.
I will wait for publication of the book and get a proper copy from Waterstones or my library so that I can read it properly and post an honest unbiased review.
Besides the opportunity to read books a few days before their publication, the only tangible benefit that a Readers First member is left with for several hours 'work' is a copy of the new book which they can lend, gift or sell to others.
I somehow feel this is not possible and I have been cheated when the advanced copy is an uncorrected proof copy.
