After reading the first book in this series, The Last Hours, I was keen to continue with these characters and this second instalment definitely didn’t disappoint!
I found this continuation to be an excellent conclusion and would recommend to all historical fiction fans. I particularly enjoy the era in which this book is set, the 1300’s were dark and gritty times and the author brought to life the sheer horrors of life for both rich and poor. With threads of religion, politics and the urge for freedom and loving happy fulfilling lives, this story is incredibly immersive and I was pulled into it with ease.
The author writes beautifully and all characters and descriptions jump from the pages into my minds eye with a vividness that entrances.
I was sad to come to to end of the story as I had a great connection with the characters, particularly Lady Anne, and would recommend Minette Walters to my historical fiction loving friends. Although this author is more known for writing modern day thrillers, her historical fiction writing really is quite something.
