I was really looking forward to reading this as I hadn't read anything previously set around the 14th century and the plague. Usually historical novels are one of my favourite genres. Although I enjoyed all the details of the time and setting, I found it difficult to get into the storyline. I enjoyed getting a better understanding of what it may have been like to live through the plague. Although a sequel, the list of characters and detail at the beginning is really helpful for those who had not read the first book.
The story is well written and rich in historical detail but overall I found the plot dragged on a little. The cover is beautifully intricate and draws the attention of the reader.
