I wasn't sure I was going to like this from the synopsis but as I read on I found myself getting sucked in. There's so much information which cleverly introduces us to the main character, what he does, what he's trying to achieve and also a bit about his family. I love that he's got an illness which comes across in certain behaviours that he does and says. The fact that it's set in 1997 is quite nostalgic - Gil has Nokia's and a beeper! 1997 doesn't feel like long ago but it was 24 years ago so there'll be reliance on newspapers to break news. I wasn't sure that I'd enjoy the political aspect of it, given that I've never read a plot that relies heavily on it, but I'm very interested. Even though I feel I'd have to concentrate on this novel in order to keep up I feel like the author has written this very well and it could be worth it. A great start.
