Amoral reporter looking out for ego-boosting scoop?

Gil Peck is a tenacious, obsessive reporter, who is forever chasing stories and prying information from important people or even using information from his own family to produce captivating reading. He explains his passion as a ‘habitual thrill that never wanes’ and he takes advantage of any situation or person in his pursuit of an ego-boosting scoop. He has an estranged relationship with his family as his amoral behaviour has offended them in the past and he is very much in the shadow of his brilliant sister. Then late one night he is surprised to receive a call on one of his mobile phones from his mother. The news scares him and although wanting to continue to pursue the story he is chasing he must go to the hospital where his sister is in intensive care.
