This book had my attention from the first word. The author has an interesting way of tossing the reader into the middle of the man's life by allowing discovery through nuanced details instead of blatant narration. What I love about the character is that we are bound by his self-awareness and the bias that the author does a great job of showing through the inner dialogue. As far as the plot goes, I found the exposition very successful in introducing the reader into this darker, underground world of power that the character navigates. It certainly lives up to the synopsis detailing it as a thrilling mystery. The twists and turns present in the first section alludes to a grand story with political commentary that is especially relevant today. Readers who enjoy both intricately planned intrigue and a refined, contemporary writing style would find this book to be a 'must-read'.
