Robert Peston has written an amazing novel, especially considering it's his first one! I love how he had taken his own experience in politics and put them into his fiction writing.
One thing i really enjoy about this book is how the characters are written realistically, rather than how many fiction books seem to blur the line between how people in the real world would act versus how their characters would act (although I'm a fan of both styles of writing).
One small detail i found made me like the book more was how the main character, Gilbert, is known to have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Whilst people tend to confuse being a perfectionist with having OCD, i personally think this book is good at showing the difference between the two (i.e Gilbert's tendency as a young child to constantly check on whether the oven was on or not late at night, or the way he repeats phrases to calm himself down). This may not seem like a noteworthy thing to some people, but i believe that a small nod to mental disorders makes a book much more interesting to read.
Overall, this book is a must read, and if you're on the fence as to whether you should buy it or not, i say do it!
