I was unsure as to whether I would enjoy this debut fictional novel by ITV’s political editor Robert Peston. Politics and political thrillers are not my usual read of choice. But, having just finished The Whistle Blower, I must say I really enjoyed it. I did feel though that Gil Peck’s voice throughout the book was the identical style and intonation of Robert himself!

Set in the political world of the late 1990’s this novel plays out the double crossing and double whistleblowing of Gil and his sister Clare. It is an immersive view of the fictional underhand dealings, the deception and the complexities of politics and journalism.

What you don’t expect is the undercurrent of family, friendships, loyalty, love, grief and trust. Who can you trust in the world of top secret and sensitive information of national importance?

This is a great read for any followers of politics and journalism. Can’t wait for Robert’s next one.
