I'll admit I'd never normally pick a political thriller to read so it's probably not a surprise I struggled with this book. I almost gave up halfway through but decided to leave it for a few days and gave it another go. I think the second half of the book was better than the first and made it to the end, although it took a lot longer than it normally would for me to complete a book of this length.

I didn't particularly care for any of the characters I was reading about so wasn't driven to see Gil work out what had happened to his sister. I also found it hard to keep track of who some of the characters were, especially several of the politicians.

I think if you have an interest in UK politics you would probably enjoy this book more than me. The writing was solid and Robert Peston has obviously taken care in ensuring his references match the time period the book is set in.
