This work of political fiction was a first for me, I don’t tend to lean towards political plot lines but I gave this a go as I won a copy and it did seem interesting, it also helped that I knew of Robert Preston from the media and have seen some of his coverage before and appreciate his work.

Now to the book, I actually really enjoyed it and I had a lot of ‘edge of my seat’ moments! I think Preston did a really good job of keeping the reader engaged and I liked the plot and the insights he offered via the characters into a lot of the awful and corrupt things that happen in this country and with our elected officials! It wasn’t difficult to pick out the influence for some of the characters and I actually really enjoyed trying to figure out who the inspirations for some of them were, (and yes I know this is fiction but you just know his real life stories have bled into this book!).

I will say there are a lot of characters to get your head around in this book and bear with the info dumping in the first paragraph, but once you are through it is a genuinely well written, witty novel with intrigue, good twists, corruption, sorrow and just and overarching drive for good to win out in the end!
